There are many different types of searches within the system.

Global Search Bar

The Search Bar in the top-left corner of your screen can be used at any time from any screen.

Using this bar, you can search for:

  • All or part of a profile name (First Last)

  • UVA ID number

  • All or part of a Case Number by using the format #XX-XXXX

    • (The pound symbol, year the case was created, sequential number the case was assigned)

    • Note: archived reports from the previous ODOS system, Advocate, are listed in SafeGrounds by their original Advocate case numbers)

  • All or part of a Profile's contact information fields, such as phone number or address

    • Format for searching phone numbers: XXX-XXX-XXXX OR XXX XXX XXX

  • All or part of a student organization name

Badges next to an individual profile name indicates if the person is an employee, student, and/or organization. If a badge does not appear, that individual is not an active student or employee.

Note: Past students and employees may still appear active due to lack of data base purging. We are working to get this issue resolved.

Users with appropriate permissions can use the All Cases page (listed in the Main Menu) to search for case related topics.
You can also search more efficiently using the filter options within the All Cases page. Only cases that a user has permission to view will appear in All Cases.

Main Menu Search

There are three main search functions under the Search tab in the Main Menu: Text Search, Advanced Search, and Contact Search.

Text Search

This function searches for key words within case fields (Documents, Incident Descriptions, Case Actions, and Case Notes).
