Procedure for removing the error (when there is blinking GREEN indicator) on the Turbo pump:

  • Call MCR to get NM4 keys (and stop the beam if it is on).
  • You will notice that the rotation speed is decreasing while the green light is blinking.

  • While the GREEN light is blinking, press the button (only ONCE) pointed in the above image, and you should start seeing that the rotation speed is increasing upto 660 Hz.
  • In case, the light becomes RED when you approach the controller, then proceed with the steps as mentioned below.

Procedure for removing the error (when there is RED indicator) on the Turbo pump:

  • If you notice IVC going high and you see an error on the Turbo pump display (shown below) then you immediately need to access the NM4 hall to restart the turbo pump
  • Call MCR to get NM4 keys (and stop the beam if it is on).
  • Record the error code displayed on the controller.  The error message on the turbo looks like "Error E698", this number (698) may vary, please record this error code in the logbook. The LED lights will turn red as shown in the following picture

  • Turn off the controller, by toggling the black power switch at the backside of the controller.

    • (As of 2024-June-08) Make sure that the blue Ethernet cable is not loose, by gently pulling it.  If it is loose, push it firmly.
  • Wait until the screen gets blank.  It usually takes a few seconds.
    • If it doesn't get blank, unplug only blue Ethernet cable and go to the next step. If that doesn't work then unplug all three cables (blue Ethernet, gray power output and black power input) at the backside and wait for a minute or longer as needed.
  • Turn on the controller by toggling the black power switch.
  • Press the rightmost button so that the green LED illuminates (not flashes) as shown in following picture.
    • You might need to press the button twice or none.  Anyway make the green LED illuminate.

  • If you see some other channel on the display then using the forward/backward arrow button go to the same channel "309:  Act Rotspd" and make sure the error is gone
  • Make sure the rotation speed ramp up to 660 Hz (once the error is gone you can do this from the counting room)
  • Make sure the pressure goes back down
  • Now if you called MRC to stop the beam, call them again and request to send the beam
  • In a situation where the Turbo controller is not responding at all and the vacuum pressure keeps increasing (in other words, if the vacuum is failing), then make sure
    1) The Magnet Return Bypass valve is FULLY OPEN (see Option #3 of How to control the Magnet Return flow)
    and
    2) The Gate Valve (GV) Bypass valve is FULLY OPEN (see How to control the Fridge Return flow (GV and GV Bypass) )
