In addition to the tasks mentioned (above and below this table), perform the following Routine Maintenance Tasks for Owl/Day/Swing shifts

Owl-Shift
  • Check whether both LHe liquefiers are producing with a rate of ~4 L/hr
  • Check the total consumption rate (Magnet return flow + Separator return flow + Main return flow), and estimate how long the magnet LHe will take to get to 0% (communicate this information on the discord channel via CCP computer)
You can use this page: Combined Calculators (fnal.gov) or just calculate by-hand.
Day-Shift
  • Fill purifier LN2 space with LN2 → click here
  • Fill Magnrt LN2 space with LN2 → click here
  • Go through the Polarized Target Maintenance Record
  • Check whether both LHe liquefiers are producing with a rate of ~4 L/hr
  • Check the total consumption rate (Magnet return flow + Separator return flow + Main return flow), and estimate how long the magnet LHe will take to get to 0% (communicate this information on the discord channel via CCP computer)
You can use this page: Combined Calculators (fnal.gov) or just calculate by-hand.
Swing-Shift
  • Check whether both LHe liquefiers are producing with a rate of ~4 L/hr
  • Check the total consumption rate (Magnet return flow + Separator return flow + Main return flow), and estimate how long the magnet LHe will take to get to 0% (communicate this information on the discord channel via CCP computer)
You can use this page: Combined Calculators (fnal.gov) or just calculate by-hand.
  • Check the total helium amount in the entire system using https://e906-gat1.fnal.gov/data-summary/e1039/target-par-preset/total_LHe_stat.php, and communicate to the Target Expert if you notice a drop throughout the past 24 hrs.

Target operator Role

The target operator's job is to monitor and maintain the cryogenic system of the polarized target while continuously maximizing polarization of the target whenever possible while beam is on.  The Target Operator should be constantly checking the status of these five critical components of the system:

System Alarms

FNAL Target Elog

Target Operator (TO) tasks during Shift

Polarization Optimization
