At UVA we produce target material for spin physics experiments such as SpinQuest. The target is the source of the nuclear interactions we study and we must insure a level of purity when producing the target. For SpinQuest we strive to produce a premium target that satisfy a high packing fraction and with a low dilution factor. The term packing fraction refers to the ratio of the volume of atoms within the material vs the actual volume of the material. A higher packing fraction means there is less space for non-polarizable components. The dilution factor is a ratio of non-polarizable components vs polarizable components.
