  1. Go to the subjects.shanti.virginia.edu
  2. Click the search icon
    • Find this button below the main menu This button is a magnifying glass in the top right corner of the page
    • The Search window will expand
  3. Type a subject into the "Search " field
  4. To filter your search, click Advanced
    • A drop-down menu of search filters will expand
    1. Choose the filters you want to use
    • You can select as many options as you want from the "Show only results containing" and "Show only feature types" menus
  5. Click EnterFind this button to the right of the search Subjects" field
    • A list of
      subjects
      places that fit your search criteria will appear
      at the bottom of the window
    To view results
    • in
    a hierarchy, click the Browse Subjects tab
    • Note that you can browse subjects without entering a search query. Learn more at Browse Subjects.
    1. Click + to expand a search result
    2. Click - to collapse a search result
    To view results in a list, click the Results
    • the "Results" tab
  6. Use the scroll bar to browse arrow buttons as needed to view results
  7. Click a search result subject from the results
    • The Knowledge Maps Overview page will appear
